| South
West Wales is an area blessed
with some of the finest river fishing in Europe, with jumbo sewin, brown
trout and salmon prominent in river catches. There
are even a few grayling in the rivers of South Wales but first and
foremost it is the thrill of catching sewin - magnificent, mysterious
sea trout - on the fly at night that draws anglers from far and wide to
these world famous spate rivers. The holiday cottages are a 30 minute drive from the River Towy, 60 minutes from the River Teifi, 2 minutes from the River Tawe and 5 minutes from the River Neath. For more information about fishing on the River Tawe. click here |

Best of Both Worlds |
|||||
| Small
fisheries where you can catch three-pound trout on the dry fly are
plentiful in the area and some of them have their own hatcheries.
Fisheries such as White House Mill, near Whitland, and Felindre, just
outside Swansea, offer much more than fishing; they are ideal retreats
for the angler's family too. Another great spot is Crai Reservoir in the Brecon Beacons National Park, where wild brown trout may be caught. |
If you visit South Wales for a UK fishing holiday, you don't have to make that painful choice between a family holiday and a fishing holiday; here you can have the best of both worlds. |

| If
you are accustomed to hard-fished venues where boilies and particle
baits are essential to success, why not step back in time and use more
traditional methods on the unpressured fisheries of South-west Wales? Fendrod Lake in Swansea holds carp approaching 30lb, while the nearby Singleton Park is close to a children's play area, the beach and a pub, making it an ideal family venue. Further east you come to Margam Country Park. The park offers a fun-packed day out for all the family, and in addition to the attractions of deer and adventure playgrounds there are three lakes. The fishing is of high quality with skimmer bream, rudd, tench, eels, crucian carp and, of course, common and mirror carp. Most baits will take fish here, with sweetcorn, bread and maggot being especially productive. (Boilies and particle baits are not permitted.) click here |

SUPERB
LOCATION

Boat Fishing |
The Bristol Channel |
||||
|
Swansea is a focal point for boat fishing
in the area. It holds national status as one of the longest
standing charter ports in the UK. For many years anglers have flocked to the South west corner of Wales to fish the productive grounds within Swansea Bay itself and marks further afield off the Gower Coast and in the Bristol Channel. There are excellent launching facilities at The Knab, near Mumbles, at the beaches at Port Eynon and Oxwich Bay, and at Burry Coast further up the coast. During the autumn and winter, cod and whitting are the dominant species at Swansea, but from April through to October a much wider mix of fishing is on offer. On a typical day trip on a charter boat out of Swansea you could start by drifting for bass using light tackle and live sandeels. Later, you might anchor over a sandbank and fish for rays and turbot. For your final session, the skipper might move to another mark so that you can try for tope. |
The Bristol Channel has the second highest tidal range in the world and relatively shallow waters. This means that autumn and winter cod fishing is superb, while spring and summer visitors have a wide choice of fish species and angling techniques. Boat fishers often do well around Christmas time and early in the New Year, when specimen cod are plentiful. |
