CHAMPIONSHIP
COURSES
Our cottages are ideally located to access a huge variety of golfing
facilities throughout the region including a range of world renowned
championship courses, all within an easy 1 hour drive. The Royal
Porthcawl, one of the area's many County Greens, and the Marriott St
Pierre in Chepstow have, between them, hosted the Dunlop Masters, the
Curtic Cup, the Solheim Cup and the Walker Cup. The new Wentwood
Hills course at the Celtic Manor resort is a regular venue on the
European Tour circuit and is merely a 60 minute drive along the M4 from
our holiday cottages. Other notable championship courses nearby
include Southerdown and Pyle & Kenfig, both County Greens near
Bridgend, and Ashburnham in Burry Port. All these courses are
located within a 30 mile radius of our cottages.
CLUBHOUSE FACILITIES
Clubhouse facilities in the area are generally excellent and available
to members and visitors alike. Meet some of the local characters
and enjoy a few hours relaxation after your round.

Created from farmland in 1924, the course is located on the mountain

A parkland course with magnificent coastal views, small greens, plenty
of bunkers and unwelcoming rough. The 8th has a spectacular view
from the medal tee of sheer beauty, overlooking the bays of Caswelll,
Pwll Du and Brandy Cove. However, the finishing holes are the most
memorable particularly the short 16th which is called "Death or
Glory" - the alternative to hitting the tiny green is to be buried
on bracken or playing the second from the beach.
The majority of clubs in the area have pro shops
selling a range of quality clothing and equipment.

The 2010 Ryder Cup is
to be held at the Celtic Manor Resort Golf
Club in Newport, a 60 minute drive along the M4 from our Swansea
Valley golfing holiday accommodation. There are three 18 hole
courses to choose from:
1. The Coldra Woods - arguably the best par three course in the UK - par
59 and 4001 yards. Beautifully scenic. £16.00 per round for
visitors.
2. The Roman Road Championship Course is a par 69 and 6700 yards.
The front nine is long and wide whilst the back nine weaves its way
through ravines, lakes and streams beside the Usk River Valley. £37.00
per round for visitors.
3. The Wentwood Hills Championship Course is a par 72 and 7400
yards. It cleverly combines the hilly landscape with the
links-like features of an estuary in the Usk River Valley. £55.00
per round for visitors.
The 2010 Ryder Cup will be played at Wentwood Hills.

Pennard, one of the Britain's most picturesque golf courses boasts
breathtaking views across Oxwich Bay and Three Cliffs Bay. At 6329
yds, par 71, it is not overly long but routinely buffeted by strong
winds that roar up the Bristol Channel it can provide a very stern
challenge. The site incorporates the ruins of a 12th century
Norman castle and the site of a medieval church.
Tom Doak, a leading American golf course architect wrote of Pennard in
the Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, "This is one of my all time
favourites-the site is one of the most spectacular I've ever seen."

Neath Golf Club, founded in 1934, is a 'James Braid' planned course
covering 220 acres. It is one of Wales' highest golf courses at 500 feet above sea level with
magnificent views of seven counties - the Bristol Channel to the south and the Brecon
Beacons to the north. The condition is excellent and nicely
undulating without being too severe. |

area, nets, a practice bunker and green, and an excellent putting area.
